These are some of the basic guidelines my family and I use when it comes to eating, we try to stick with this as much as possible. You can use this as a guideline if you are looking to start a whole foods diet. Just be sure to listen to your body, it will let you know when you have eaten something it doesn't like!
Oils and Fats
100% extra virgin olive oil
Organic unrefined coconut oil
Organic Butter (occasionally)
Margarine and any hydrogenated oils
Pure Honey (raw when we can afford it)
Coconut Palm Sugar
Evaporated Cane Juice Crystals (sparingly)
Any form of artificial sweeteners like splenda
Refined white and brown sugar
Any form of corn syrup
Organic cage free eggs
Organic free range chicken
Wild Alaskan caught salmon
Organic Cheese (sparingly)
Any meat that is not organic or certified humane
Eggs that are not organic or free range
100% Whole wheat flour
Brown rice pasta or whole grain pasta
Quinoa, Millet etc..
White or wheat (not whole wheat) flour
Any refined bleached flours or grains
We use either coconut milk, rice milk, or almond milk for cooking/baking
We avoid processed foods as much as possible, especially MSG and food dyes (like red 40) or anything containing foods that we have avoided above like high fructose corn syrup, soybean oil etc..
We eat organic as much as possible. Especially with produce listed on the dirty dozen .
We try out best to eat good at home and allow ourselves to "cheat" a little when we need to eat away from home, like family dinners and special occasions.That's what works for us.
